I'm Feeling Lucky by Phil Dutra EP Design

The challenge

The singer songwriter and indie pop market requires album artwork that tells a story and evokes a distinct, nostalgic mood. The objective was to design a comprehensive physical and digital EP packaging system for the release "I'm Feeling Lucky" by artist Phil Dutra. The primary design challenge was to translate a cinematic, retro inspired aesthetic into a cohesive layout that seamlessly transitions from the square outer jacket to the circular surface of the physical compact disc without losing critical typography or breaking the visual narrative.

Our approach

We executed a warm, nostalgic design concept that captures the essence of a classic, sun drenched American road trip.

The Visuals & Palette The artwork features a vintage sports car driving along a coastal highway during a dramatic golden hour sunset. We utilised a rich, warm colour palette dominated by amber, dusty orange and deep sunset purples, invoking feelings of freedom, optimism and retro charm.

The Typography We developed a custom, high impact typography layout for the title "I'm Feeling Lucky." The text uses a thick, 1970s style retro script with bold outlines, a dynamic drop shadow and a subtle inner gradient that reflects the golden light of the background scene.

The Media Adaptation To adapt the square jacket design for the physical disc surface, we repositioned the background horizon line to maintain visual depth around the center spindle hole. The right hemisphere of the CD features a clean, high contrast track list and copyright block, ensuring technical legibility against the textured landscape.

The outcome

The final asset delivers a highly polished, retail ready physical merchandise package that perfectly encapsulates the musical vibe of the EP. The design establishes a strong, cinematic visual identity that elevates Phil Dutra’s brand across both physical store shelves and digital streaming thumbnails. The project assets were delivered as precise, print ready CMYK templates with exact bleed lines for the digipak jacket and silk screen disc printing, ensuring vibrant colour replication during the manufacturing process.
