Ruby Winters For The Good Times Cd Cover Design

Album Cover Design 2015

This portfolio showcase highlights the commercial print layout and graphic architecture for the Ruby Winters For the Good Times CD Cover Design. The objective was to design a highly nostalgic, premium and evocative album cover that bridges classic soul music heritage with modern retail packaging, instantly communicating timeless vocal elegance, stage presence and a clear product identity for retail distribution

Design & Requirements Breakdown

Visual Symbolism – The design features a stylised, retro toned photographic portrait of Ruby Winters as the primary visual anchor, radiating performance confidence in a classic gown. This soul music theme is beautifully layered into the graphic architecture via a dynamic, exploding sunburst swirl pattern in the background canvas, mixed with glittering stardust sparks that orbit behind a prominent, vintage style golden stage microphone. This visual layout seamlessly evokes the golden era of rhythm and blues, performance energy and absolute vocal majesty.

Typographic Architecture – A clean, modern sans-serif display typeface anchors the main layout, breaking out the artist's name "RUBY WINTERS" in an elegant gold block format alongside the main album title "For the good times" in a crisp white. In the lower left margin, a highly legible sans-serif hierarchy balances hit track highlights such as "Come to Me," "Baby Lay Down," and "I Will" to drive immediate consumer purchase decisions. A classic "COMPACT DISC DIGITAL AUDIO" logo block is anchored neatly in the upper left corner to verify official retail manufacturing standards.

Premium Presentation – The promotional artwork is presented inside a high fidelity retail jewel case mock up perspective, showcasing the booklet layout sitting behind a realistic clear plastic tray and a textured black plastic hinge spine. The presentation captures light reflections across the glossy front face and pristine edge borders, offering a highly tactile, professional preview of a completed commercial music release ready for retail shelving or digital audio platform displays.

Strategic Colour Choice – A sophisticated, performance first palette of deep crimson red, rich mahogany and brilliant metallic gold forms the core brand signature elements and graphic background panels, heavily contrasted by the crisp white typography tracks. This distinct, high contrast palette evokes immediate nostalgic warmth, classic vinyl era sophistication, and an easily recognisable artist brand identity that stands out in a physical record shop display or digital streaming storefront.

Target Audience Focus – The structured, heritage first layout is tailored to engage dedicated soul and rhythm and blues music collectors looking for authentic classic releases, legacy audio enthusiasts seeking high quality compilation albums, and retail music shoppers demanding a transparent, highly professional package design that beautifully honors the artist's historic musical catalog.
