Brilliant or BS Packaging Design
This portfolio showcase highlights the packaging design and box structure for Brilliant or BS? Big Bluff Box. The objective was to design a vibrant, high energy party game box that commands attention on retail shelves while instantly communicating fast paced trivia game play, bluffing mechanics, and social entertainment for game nights.
Design & Requirements Breakdown
Visual Symbolism – The design features an energetic yellow starburst background cradling a central speech bubble logotype with "Brilliant or BS?", flanked by a high impact red badge highlighting "200 ALL NEW Questions." Distinct player count ("2–6 Players") and age rating ("14+") call out icons on the lower corner visually reinforce casual party accessibility and group fun.
Typographic Architecture – A dynamic script and bold sans-serif combo font commands primary attention with "Brilliant or BS?", perfectly balanced by a playful hand drawn tagline reading "A Trivia Game for Know It Alls & Big Fat Liars" and a high contrast yellow script header for "Big Bluff Box" on the side panel for immediate, multi-angle readability.
Premium Presentation – The sturdy, compact card deck box layout features a contrasting black end cap panel that grounds the bright top graphics. The multi panel design seamlessly organises game rules, social icons, and retail barcodes around the box edges, maintaining a clean, engaging presentation for e-commerce displays and retail shelf stacking.
Strategic Colour Choice – High-visibility canary yellow and vibrant fiery red form a high contrast, attention grabbing core, offset by deep charcoal black and stark white speech bubbles to evoke high stakes bluffing, lively conversation, and a fun, modern party identity.
Target Audience Focus – The expressive, comedy-first layout is tailored to engage party hosts, trivia enthusiasts, college students, and adult game night players seeking a fast, hilarious card game centered around deception, general knowledge, and calling out big fat liars.
